Belt Tensioner Replace
Had my car (96 SC2) in the shop today and was told that I need to have my serpentine belt and tensioner replaced... Is this something that a rather unexperienced but not completely stupid guy could do himself or is it worth 270 dollars of my tax refund to have them do it? anybody help with instructions or advice? thanks, Chris

Re: Belt Tensioner Replace
for $270, hell no. its a bit involved to do but not bad. jack up the passenger side (put jackstand under it) and pull the wheel off and the inner splash shield. now put a jack under the oil pan with a block of wood or something that will distribute the pressure on the pan. now remove the top anchor mount, engine mount. remove the belt, might help to lower engine down and do it from the wheel well, but i always do it from the top easy enough. now if you havent lowered the engine, do it enough so you can reach both of the 10mm bolts that hold the tensioner on. from there just reverse.
its pretty simple to do. |
