To anyone who has built Tamiya Porsche GT3...

Hi,

Please anyone who has built the GT3: Did you glue and prepare the full bodywork without setting headlights and their clear parts in its place? Is there any problem setting them once the bodywork is complete?

Regards

From what I recall, the body is quite tight going over the chassis if you put the bumpers on first.

There's no issue with installing the clear parts afterwards. You'd probably get a better fit doing it this way actually.

I glue the bumpers and other parts on it before painting. Only the wing will be a problem to paint if you glue it to the body directly. Assemble it, but paint apart this one.

I did have troubles on the Boxter but the GT3 was ok. I have another one on the shell not painted (but body parts glued) and I certainly hope everything will be ok cuz I had a bad time with those lights. By the way... the 996 from Italeri isn't better (except maybe for the muffler parts)... the lights are a mess to deal with.

Re: To anyone who has built Tamiya Porsche GT3...

I always tape the bumpers etc. loosely into place and paint them at the same time but glue in the proper assembly sequence. I don't want to have to break anything apart during final assembly because the chassis or lamps or something won't fit ...been there, done that, got paint and glue on the T-shirt

I had no trouble at all fitting the headlights to any of my Tamiya Carreras, or GT3's after the bumper was installed. The hardest item to glue is the damned half-lense inside the headlight assembly. The headlight covers fit well. Make sure to paint the inner edges of the covers a bright silver/chrome to most closely approximate the look on the outside. Black isn't correct, and leaving them as-is will make the areas underneath look a bit sunken in and may also show where you glued them.

Yup, after about 2 hours I got them both in and then realized they were crooked.
