Re: Loud mufflers

Take off the tailpipes and exit the mufflers ahead of the rear wheels.

Don't run glasspacks, I honestly don't know why people like 'em. Don't let the fact that you can see right through them make you think otherwise. they are the most restrictive muffler you can buy. Also, don't run 'no mufflers' either - the cars are designed to produce power with all exhaust system components, including the mufflers, installed. Removing them might reduce low-end torque and it will be hell on your ears. You can also blow out your cats this way. The Turbo mufflers are alright. Flowmasters would be better. But yes, NASCAR style out the side in front of the wheels.

Edit - forgot you don't have cats, but you will still negatively affect performance by removing the mufflers. Flowmasters are great for performance and have that special sound, but Turbos would probably give you more of what you're looking for.

They work fairly good although I don't have personal experience with them. The Turbo mufflers are the best for that low, deep growling sound with punch. They're quiet with tailpipes on, but nice and moderately loud without them, as long as they don't dump under where you are sitting. I ran a car once that had a 350 Chevy in it - I installed a pair of Hedman headers with 4" collectors that dumped straight into Turbos that exited under the car, directly under the front seats. I only ran it in that configuration for one day. It was so loud that my ears would ring for a half hour after shutting off the car.

Re: Loud mufflers

Flowmasters and turndowns in front of the rear axle. I run this on my Nova and it makes my 350 sound like a big block. Also, you can create quite a stir when you cruise around and the sound of your exhaust sets off car alarms. This I know from experience

Re: Loud mufflers

Just see if you can get the tailpipes off and then stick some turndowns on the mufflers with some muffler clamps. That way you can put the tailpipes back on later if you don't like it. I bet you'll like it though!
