2000 Chevy 2500 7.4 liter engine gas mileage

I'm thinking of buying a 2000 Chevy 2500 with a 7.4 liter engine. I've searched all over and I've not been able to find out the gas mileage on this vehicle. I would love to find out if someone out there knows!!! If anyone wants to give me any other pros and/or cons on this vehicle, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Chris

One way to check the mileage is.
Take it for a test drive.
But do not expect to much. 4W ? big eng and big truck is not a good gas mileage combo.

I know this isnt an exact match, but we use to have an 89 k2500 with a 7.4, and it wouldnt even get into the double digits on a good day, going downhill, with the wind . But considering it had 4.55 gears and the engine was 11 years older than the 2000, you may be able to pull off 10 - 14 MPG.

don't think they publish milage on 3/4 ton and heavier trucks but I would imagine its going to be around 12 to 15 mpg.

Re: 2000 Chevy 2500 7.4 liter engine gas mileage

With the 7.4L you're probably looking at 11-15, but you might want to reduce those numbers for extra weight due to extended cab or crew cab setups. A manual transmission may help you out by a 1/2 or 1 mpg. A 2wd may get you an extra 1/2 mpg over a 4x4.

Regardless, with light to moderate driving habits I'm predicting 10-14 and maybe 11-15 depending on the setup.

I have a 1995 K3500 4WD with 4.10 rear 7.4 and I get 10mpg in the summer and 8.5 in colder weather
