Got on the Dyno....

Well I was just going to watch other people on the dyno with a couple of my friends who I race with.... but my roomates talked me into spending the $50 for 3 runs on the dyno. I didn't really care to do it because I still have the highly restrictive 6-cylinder exhaust system attached and it is not even close to being tuned properly. But we figured it would be good to get a before and after. so here it is.

Here is the dyno sheet...
http://bengal.missouri.edu/~klm217/u...dyno_sheet.JPG

181.6 hp and 200 lb-ft torque at the wheels.... which would be approx. 240hp and 266lb-ft assuming 25% drivetrain losses. This is not far from the 250-290hp that I estimated a month back on a previous post.

Even though I knew about what it was going to be, it was pretty dissappointing to see that 181.6hp come up on the screen (especially in front of the crowd). So I am now determined to get it done. by the next dyno day, next month. I will have my mandrel exhaust on (all the way back), everything tuned, and probably the 125-150shot of NOS that I promised myself too.

On the next dyno day it WILL hit 400 or more horses (with or without the NOS)!!!

P.S. I have videos too... low quality though, they came from my camera phone.

Re: Got on the Dyno....

Hey, at least you hit the dyno man. Don't worry about, get all the tuning and stuff done and you'll hit those numbers you want. Gotta love the primer kevin. Btw, you have HID lights, right? I need to replace all 4 lights on the IROC. I'm tired of the yellow dull look, plus they're on they're way out, and I really can't see that far ahead, hince the dying headlights. I saw some on ebay for 34.99 a pair, but if i recall correctly, you got them from a local store? Love the ZR1's btw. I want to get a set in black, but my wallet won't let me.

Re: Got on the Dyno....

Rough times. If I were in your place I would of had side pipes and ghetto fabbed a little muffler or something temporarily and dumped the nasty 2" exhaust. Once I get my charger kit on Im hoping for about 350 to the wheels. At the crank it should be over 400. This might be wishfull thinking but hey I can dream. I do love that primer color. The whole car looks awsome.

Re: Got on the Dyno....

You know how restrictive our exhaust is. I don't know what the hell GM was thinking when the did this. But once you fab up your exhaust or how ever your gonna do it, it gonna put a big grin on your face. Stock exhaust blows monkey balls.

Re: Got on the Dyno....

Why do you assume 25% drivetrain loss? seems like thats a little high to me

congrats neway

Re: Got on the Dyno....

Me thinks its not the exhaust, but the carb. Extra 50hp from the exhaust seems real.

The torque numbers are pretty low-seems like it leans out a lot. Look into that.

I just figured I would use 25% drvetrain loss... no particular reason (except being optimistic).

I'm going to get a lot more than 50hp from the new exhaust... I will increase the engine output (hp) by about 40-55 percent. I'm still using the stock 6-cylinder piping which is highly restrictive. Remember a 600hp engine breathin thru a 150hp exhaust, still only makes 150hp.

There's no problem with the carb, it's calibrated nearly perfectly out of the box. I have an A/F gauge that tells me the ratio.... it's actually running very rich right now.... becuase the 750 carb is not flowing nearly as much air as it should be, thanks to the factory exhaust piping.

I've got it all under control... it's just a matter of getting it done, I just wanted to give yall the update since its been a while. This weekend I'm doing 1.6 or 1.7 rockers, custom exhaust, lowering the front another 1-1.5 inches, wheel alignment, royal purple fluids, and positrac 3.73's.

Re: Got on the Dyno....

My 89 5.7 TPI put out about the exact same hp in the summer when I had it dyno'd. Its got alot of kms on it though and needed to be tuned and the transmission wasnt good. I had almost exactly 100 more torque than hp though. Im sure the torque especially will shoot up with that new exhaust system.

Good luck next summer!
