Key programming for 106 mk1

hi i have some instructions on how to program a 106 key. They say put ignition on and hold button 10cm away from sensor for 15 seconds, then to unlock the car with working key and to press the key ur trying to program twice within 20 seconds. I have tried many times but can not get it to work and i know my key is working. Any suggestions
