Finished : 1/24 Tamiya Porsche 911 GT

There, I did it!

I promised myself to try to build a model completely "straith-from-the-box" and I managed to do so. Not a single aftermarket item was used, even the seatbelts are the original decals, although I used them in a different way : I cut them to have a 3d effect.

After 2 weeks of intensive but straith from the box building the end result is still acceptable I reckon. Ok, it's not a contest model, but the pics look nice, and I'm glad it turned out quite well.

Re: Finished : 1/24 Tamiya Porsche 911 GT

Looks great straight from the box which is good to know because I am planning to do the same with that kit!

How much time do you think it saves just by not doing say carbon fibre decals? I know that I always have difficulties with them and that they would add a lot of extra hours. I know it is part of the fun but with a small baby girl it is sometimes hard to find the time. I think I will be in my seventies before I complete all of the kits I have got and I have seen how many you have got in your to do pile on another thread!

Nicely done Guy, I see it also gave you a reason to wash the 1:1 car

OOB! That must have taken some disipline, the urge to add details must have been overwhelming.
Looks superb.

Well, to be honest I have the kit twice, and I'm planning on building the other one as the CF-testcar. That will certainly not be an OOB build. So I consider this build as a practise for the other kit.

Great work and I have this kit as well, are the decals hard to apply?

Can't tell, since this was a prepainted and pre-decalled kit.

Mmm. Better warn you then : I also have the DTM CLK and the DTM Astra, both as "normal" kit and prepainted kit. How else can one know if they are worth the money?

Re: Finished : 1/24 Tamiya Porsche 911 GT

You know I'm just kidding Guy.
I guess one has to be positive and say that the prepainted kits and even the dreaded simplified and diecast chassis kits could help bring people to the bobby. So hopefully they are acting as a good thing. So long as "real" kits are still created too.

Nice one! You really made it look like e Le Mans winner.
I love the way you detailed the rims!

Cheers,

These pre-paints are starting to become a real problem at Model contests.

We have a category for them, but it usually is empty, because they would rather win in the other, more prestigious category where there are more entrants.

Seriously, is there a way to tell them apart from the non pre paints?
