91 CRX Overheat
My 91 CRX HF's been overheatin rather quickly lately. Even 10 min rides it would over heat. Initially I thought it was lack of water in radiator. Flushed that and Re-sealed it just incase there was a leak. I Changed the oil in it thinkin that'd help but no... still over heating rather quickly.
Any answers or suggestions would be MUCH appreciated. The Temperature gauge would be fine for a few mins.... at medium. Then within seconds it'd JET up within the red (literally) and sometimes! just sometimes it'd shoot back down to medium just as fast as it shot up. But..... its over heating none the less. No theres no leaks. Yes theres fluid in radiator. Oils been changed. |

Re: 91 CRX Overheat
my car did that for about half an hour, until i got home. i replaced the thermostat and everything was fine, but be careful because overheating is really bad on your motor

Re: 91 CRX Overheat
I appreciate the help fellas. Might be a newb question but taking out the thermastat.... wouldnt that just mean I wouldnt know of the engine is over heating or not? Instead of knowing its overheating.

Re: 91 CRX Overheat
is it really that bad? it takes the car a bit longer to warm up. i thought it was ok in so cal weather. i've been thermostatless for almost 2 years.

Re: 91 CRX Overheat
its bad because it makes your car run cold, and a cold running engine is not a happy motor, it stays in the cold enrichment loop and uses more gas, runs rich, and it can cause a shitty idle and many other problems. having no thermostat CAN acutally cause your car to overheat because the coolant flows so fast it doesnt have time to transfer to heat to the radiator.

Re: 91 CRX Overheat
the thermostat is on the back of the motor, not on the front like most cars, found that out the hard way haha. the book says to disconnect the heater hoses but you dont have to unless you want to take out the whole housing...

Re: 91 CRX Overheat
Also make sure you loosen the bleeder screw when you put coolant in. I've seen cars that overheat badly just because there was an air pocket.
