93 prelude auto hardshifting

has anyone experienced harsh shifting with any auto preludes? when i first bought the car the guy told me that it was because of a bad motor mount... but after i bought the car and been driving it, it seems to me that its the tranny it self.. there is no slipping or anything it jus shift really hard.. i did some research online here and saw that they had a call back on harsh shifting on 93-95 preludes auto after transmission fluid change... has anyone heard of this before?

my automatic '92 lude shifts hard kinda hard...its like she revs up and then planes out then shifts down kinda throwing you forward. nothing i cant live with tho...fluid change wouldnt be a bad start.

I have a 93' prelude that's an automatic and right before it shifts it revs up and then shifts. But it just started doing this about a month ago. I don't think it would have anything to do with motormounts but it sounds like it would have something to do with the tranny. But mine also shifts hard it like rotates between the two, it's really wierd.

Re: 93 prelude auto hardshifting

My 93si shifts pretty hard at full throttle, and I can feel the torque converter lock-up stages changing in 4th (drive 4) more than before. It is recommended to use only honda tranny fluid in these auto's. I'm going to change my fluid and see if it helps.

Lightbulb The Solution!

I had the same problem with my 92 S Lude, the hard shifting was killing me...I changed all the motor mounts, but still was doing it...so I took it to a tranny mechanic and the guy told me the transmission was ok, the only thing I was supposed to do was to change the transmission fluid "GENUINE HONDA TRANSMISSION FLUID ONLY!!!!" so I did it....problem solved!...the kicking is still there...but I can feel it less...To do it yourself it's very simple, just plug the ratchet in the bolt next to the transmission and take it out. (it's like doing an oil change) drain the old oil...add the new oil. (I used 4 bottles of GENUINE HONDA TRANSMISSION FLUID around $16 x 4). If you can't find the bolt let me know and I'll post a pic with the exact location...

Re: 93 prelude auto hardshifting

yeah thats wut i was thinkin too that it would be just a change of fluid would help it. but on this site that i went on they said it was a call back problem tho.. so i'm gonna call up honda and see wuts up they'll probably change it for free if its a call back problem
