My daughter was driving my 89 camry yesterday, when it started losing power. She had the gas to the floor, but the car would only go 50 km/h.
After pulling to the side of the road, I tried putting the car in gear to get a feel for what was happening. The car will not move forward, reverse or in either of the low gears. Has the tranny finally packed it in? |

Re: 1989 Tranny Crapped Out?
How many miles on the transmission? I have a 91 in which the tranny had been grossly abused and it checked out at 168,500 miles with the symptoms you describe. In my case once the tranny would cool down it would drive fine until the car hit operating temp again at which point it was as if you were in neutral. I bought a JDM replacement, traded it in and so far have 10,000 trouble free miles on it.

mystic67, What else can you say? You'll have to get the tranny repaired anyway. After that just follow the manuals annual service schedule. I think it's every 15,000 miles or every year. Sorry it happened thoughas mine car has over 200,000 miles and no problems yet. I know moneys tight but persoanlly I treat my car better than my own body. ![]() Good luck, rimfire,22 |

Re: 1989 Tranny Crapped Out?
Thanks for the response. I just changed the tranny fluid and filter 7 months ago. The odometer is reading 265,000 kms. I just drained the fluid and it looks like muddy water, with no viscosity.
