Question Backfires

I purchased a non-running 92 tracker. When trying to crank the tracker it sputters and backfires when spraying starter fluid. I checked the spark.. seems fine, Changed the timing belt and checked compression. Took out the ECM and checked for leaking caps, none were found. I do not think that the injector is spraying fuel. I have not tried the injector test as I've saw here in different forums, but I plan to tomorrow. Anyone else have any suggestions as what to try?

Thanks,
Earl

compression, spark, fuel, air, and ECU..

you've checked eveything except fuel.. fuel injector or a pump problem.. possibly a clogged fuel filter or fuel line.

It is possible if you have the distributer version that the distributer is off. Do you smell fuel in the intake? If not fuel problem.
