UGH.. got some exhaust work done on my truck.. then noticed some gas leaking somehow when my tank was full... i thought it was from the exhaust, but someone told me it was probably that my tank has a leak in it somehow, and was maybe dripping on the exhaust....???
Per their advice, I have not filled my tank up past a half a tank, and it quit leaking. :-) now I have a major oil leak under my truck. I was also told maybe it was my rear main seal... which was costly in labor. Could these things be related, becuase of the Catalitic Converter repair done? Or are these all three seperate things...CC, gas tank leak, rear main seal leak...? Female, unexperienced... but learning truck owner. Any help would be appreciated before I get suckered in labor expense. My mechanic/brother is laid up with back problems, and cannot even look at my truck..... |

Re: 1989 4X4 4.3L rear main seal oil leak
The things you mentioned are more than likely not related to the work on the catalytic converter. The fuel leak is more than likely attributable to rust on the tank, possibly where the sending unit / fuel pump goes in the tank, or possibly leaking at the seam of the tank. Either way you need to find out for sure and take appropriate action to repair it. The rear main seal is a potential place for an oil leak, but again, have it diagnosed by a reputable shop, maybe even a second and third opinion. A substantial amount of labor is involved in replacing it.

I have the same problem but mine started after I had my antifreeze leak fixed. Upper and lower intake gaskets.
