Question New noise...

I just had my clutch/throw out bearing/pilot bushing replaced (again!) and now I have a new noise coming from the underside of my truck. It only happens when the truck is moving and it's a clicking of some kind. It gets faster as I accelerate and slower as I slow down. It happens through all gears and it's not RPM specific.

Any thoughts?

edit - Sorry, it sounds like it is coming from directly under the front seats.

A rock or nail in a tire that got picked up at the clutch place ?
If it's speed related, it's in a wheel or tire.

Thanks xoc, I did consider that and gave all the tires a good overview. Nothing there.

After I started to really listen to it, it is going faster than the tires rotate. Could this be something to do with my drive shaft?

One time in high school, we took a big industrial zip tie and tightened it around a friends driveshaft. Drove him crazy trying to figure out what it was. It's probably not that but someone might be playing a joke on you.

The drive shaft will be 4.636 (or 4.363) times faster than the wheel, and is the only other thing that would be in sync with the tires.

Make sure it's not the clutch. I had noises with mine after the dealer swapped my clutch 3 times (they couldn't install it correctly). I also had a some pulsing in the clutch pedal.

3 weeks ago I smoked the clutch very badly and got a hot spot on the flywheel, "TICK SQUEEK, TICK SQUEEK, TICK SQUEEK, TICK SQUEEK" that freaked me out until the clutch cooled.

Several years ago when I had my Audi I hit some very deep (8 inches or more) standing water at a very good rate of speed (uh, about 50-60 MPH) and ended up with a noise kind of like what you describe. WHat happened was the water pressure bent one of my heat shields all to hell and it was rubbing on my rearward driveshaft. It was worse when decelerating because of changes in the angles, but the idea was the same. I guess it kind of sounded like cards in bicycle spokes, but more metallic. Hard to explain.

Anyway, perhaps the dealer bent a heat shield or such while working on the gearbox and it is rubbing on the driveshaft?
