New horn circuit?
I am fixing a freinds mustang... well my old mustang that i sold to him. And the horn isnt working, long story short, i dont get the rest of my money for the car untill the horn works. fucker haha. Anyways i beleive its the horn module behind the dash board, but i want to do this quick as possible and simple as possible. I was thinking i could just rewire a new circuit, like from the batter to a fuse and to the horn. All i care is that the horn makes a noise lol. Would this work? I have a rambler parts car that i could use stuff from, i figured they didnt have nasty computers back then adn it worked, i should beable to do somethign similar.
Any info would help! |

Re: New horn circuit?
what year mustang does he have? Yes, you could just wire up a different circuit but there is one main consideration. Does the car have an alarm system that uses the horn? If iso and it does hrough the horn module then I would just replace the module because if you just wired a different circuit then the alarm would be completely useless.
If it doesn't and you want to make a new circuit it would not be that hard. IMO the best way to do it would be to wire up the horn with power straight from the battery like you said but control it with a relay instead of switching it directly with the horn button. I would use a 20amp relay then use the horn button to ground the relay. All you would have to do would be run a wire from the coil ground terminal on the relay through the firewall, find the wires going to the horn button, disconnect them from their current locations, ground one of them permanently to a suitable source then hook the ground from the relay coil to the other hor button wire so that when the horn button is pressed the relay is grounded activating the horn. This way most of the wiring is done under the hood where it is easier to do. It would be a very good idea to check the horn button the make sure it is working before you do all this through otherwise this method will be completely useless. If the horn button is bad and you don't want to rip into the steering wheel to replace it you could just mount a switch on the dash and use that. |

Re: New horn circuit?
^^ good post!
A buddy of mine installed a horn toggle switch on the dash, so that when he came across an irritating driver in front of him (such as anyone going slower than him) he could lay on the horn while leaving both hands to steer around the offender and flip them off at the same time. (He was not the most mature person I ever met) |

^
now that's funny. My ex girlfriend's father had a horrible temper and very bad road rage. I would love to see the look on his face when he got mad at someone if he had a switch for that. |

Thanks for the info, The car is an 89, and there is no alarm. Yes the horn button is still good, when i owened the car and gave a shit about how the job was done i tested that, and basically came to the conclusion of the horn relay, but never got aropund to fixing it, now this guys trying to jack me around for some of the money he owes me untill the horns fixed. Thats why i just want to "make it work". The cruise control went at the same time... but im not doin sweet fuck all with that because the way he drives my poor little car isnt going to be on the road that long, on friday he said he was in a vans blind spot, blah blah blah he ended up having to drive on to a side walk and nearly cream a pedestrian.. fucker.,..
