Recommed tires for 99' Hyundai Elantra?

I'd like to get good tires for my 1999 Hyundai Elantra GLS. The original tires were Michelin MXV4 Plus. I currently have BFgoodrich, but hate them. 2 of the tires have buldges in them and I've been driving around wayyy too long with that so I want to invest in some good tires now. Can someone recommend good, reliable, long lasting, cool looking tires thanks

Re: Recommed tires for 99' Hyundai Elantra?

Hi Jeff!

I don't know if you bought your tires yet or not but I'll give you some info anyways. I would consider the Kumho Ecsta HP4 716 tires. I also had the Bridgestones before so I know what you're talking about.. I went on tirerack.com and ordered four of these tires with next day delivery and the shipment came just as scheduled. I paid something like $178 with shipping and handling. They ran for about $37 a piece about a year ago. Go to the website and check them out for yourself! You'll be amazed at their performance and price! I've made about 20000 miles and they run just like they ran when they were new... I'm more than satisfied with their performance and quality. Very quiet, smooth, and comfortable. Snow, rain whatever the weather brings you you'll be able to drive your car on these babies...

Re: Recommed tires for 99' Hyundai Elantra?

hi, i want to replace the stock (195/60/14R) wheels on my '99 elantra with a set of 15" wheels (195/60/15R) but i need to find out if they are compatible. the guy at my local tire shop said he didn't think there'd be enough room in the wheel well for both front wheels to move without rubbing against the wheel well if i swapped the 14"s out with the 15"s.

he said i'd most likely have to purchase a different set of tires (shorter sidewall) to accommodate for the bigger rim size. i'd rather not do this as the tires already on the 15"s rims (195/60/15R) are brand new (had 'em since june 2005). i want to take them from my '90 accord ex and swap 'em so the accord will be rolling on the hyundai's stock wheels.

any advice/suggestions appreciated. thank you.

Old thread, but anyways. If you swap the rims and tires from one car to another, you will screw up both of them. The taller tires going on the Elantra will make it accelerate like crap, gas mileage will go down because you will be on the gas harder to try to get it to get out of its own way, it will handle way differently. Plus, being such a taller tire, you do run the chance of it rubbing on the strut or inner fender. Speedometer will be off in both vehicles as well. You will be going faster than what it says in the Elantra, and slower than what it says in the Accord. For the Accord, going to a smaller tire, gas mileage is going to suffer because the car will be turning a higher RPM to maintain the same speed, and it will also handle much differently. You will also have to look and see how much room you have between the wheel and brakes of the Accord. The 15" wheel might be the minimum you can go without the wheel rubbing on the brakes. Plus sizing is good if done correctly. If you really really want the 15" on the Elantra, get the smaller tire.
