1995 lumina trans

i have a 1995 chevy lumina 3.1 v6 and when u start it up it sounds like the tranny is clicking and poping and now it starts to do that when u stop. it stops doing that when u put it in gear. but if u get roling and try to stop it sounds like it is tearing the tranny up.

Re: 1995 lumina trans

automatic transmissions shouldnt make noises like that. sounds like one of your planetaries is coming apart/tearing up. you can flush it but i doubt its going to do anything for you. check for metal flakes on your dipstick. metalflakes=death for transmissions. but to prod a bit, does the car jerk or anything or is it like a grinding gear? its possible your parking pawl or something in that setup is messed up. all it is is a big gear thats connected to your driveshafts that is locked by an equally beefy arm. worse come to worse you can take it to a trans shop and see what they say.

Re: 1995 lumina trans

I'd have the drivechain inspected. These will make noise under a no-load condition(Park,Neutral). If you let it go too long, it will start to wear into the transmission housing and begin to slip..
