Do radars work and is it worth it?

my best friend has a radar on his 95 integra and one day leaving my house he guns it down the street and about 20 secs later we see a cop hiding behind some fence. and you know how the story ends cops give ticket for going 55 in a 35. anyways my friend has a radar but the funny thing is it didnt go off. so i dont know if i should get one...do they really work anyways. if they do maybe someone can tell me what are the good ones so i dont have waste my money testing them.

You can't go wrong with Valentine 1. It's $400 but well spent. you get free upgrades, it detects all bands, has filters, tells you how many radars it detects and where it detects them (front back or side to side) and it detects light radar as well. never heard a bad review about it, check car and driver and everywhere else, its worth it.

yep that thread said the same thing:

"The best radar detector out is Valentine 1.
I have it. It's save my ass countless times.
And works FLAWLESSLY. It's spotted cops from over 1/2 mile away for me. Only downside is, it's $300."

it has the best range. if you're serious about it this is the way to go. i think the highway dectection is 2 miles before the radar hits your car, it's very nice.
