2000 Prizm DEAD!

My prizm eats oil at an alarming rate. It finally stopped working going down the highway. When I turn the key it sounds like its trying to turn over but it never does. What is anyones thoughts on this. I'm thinking the catalytic convertor but I'm no mechanic. Please give me some thoughts. Thank you
