Question Rear Window Latch

I have a 2002 Liberty Limited. Typically when you pull the handle to open the rear entry door, the window will automatically unlock and pop open. My problem is that the handle no longer engages the window release. The only way I can open the door is to first use keychain keyless rear entry window release button. I know there is a recall on some of the newer models but this seems to be different problem. I am guessing that maybe rain water corroded some of the wiring? Does anyone know the exact problem or know of any potential solutions. - Does anyone know how to remove the plastic covering to get to the wires within the rear door with out damaging the clips to put it back together. Any ideas ???

Re: Rear Window Latch

There is a technical service bulletin for this complaint, it is not a recall, it does describe your complaint completely the solution is a software upgrade for your vehicle, and is not covered under warranty unless your vehicle is within 3yrs/or36,000 miles from origional in service date, however it cant be more than a half hour labor charge. the bulletin number is #08-018-01 you can visit your local dealer and ask for them to perform this bulletin, they probably will recomend you let them diagnose it but dont let them throw parts at it.
