70 nova brake problems

I have a 70 nova w/ drums all around. When I push the pedal it feels like I am pushing a boulder, it is just hard as a rock. Has anyone encountered this problem before?? Any suggestions?

Re: 70 nova brake problems

When you apply the brake how far does the pedal travel before it gets "hard as a rock"?

Re: 70 nova brake problems

The brake pedal arm has a pushrod which activates the master cylinder. Check to make sure you have a little free play (1/4 to 1/2 inch) before the pushrod starts to press the cylinder. If not then loosen the lock nut on the pushrod and shorten it as required and re-lock. Check this first and let us know what you find.

I fell for the push rod clearance problem once on a '66 Impala, never forgot it. This is something that you do whan you replace the master on a manual brake system. The car will also be nearly impossible to move if they are locked up tight.

If you have the hard pedal problem with power brakes, the problem is with the brake booster.
