83 gsl LSD power output
was wondering how much power can you put to a stock LSD on an 83 GSL? im looking for 400whp...will this destroy it? (i love new projects)
Also...whats the stiffest aftermarket suspension i could buy for an 83 GSL...(car is being built for drifting) (since i cant go coilover )BTW...you'll probably read my sig...and b*tch about the project...but i dont really care...the rotary in my car is dead and i had one laying around.

Re: 83 gsl LSD power output
LMAO, 400WHP through any diff will kill the diff in no time. Especialy if you are drifting.
Also sounds to me like you need to be looking at doing things right not cheap. If you are going to drift you will want coulovers. as well as pillowball mounts, toe eliminator, new tie rods, all new bushings for EVERYTHING. diff brace, under braces (forget the companie who makes these but there AMAZING), and a bar across the rear b-pillars to prevent the hatch from flexing. Dont do things cheap.

Re: 83 gsl LSD power output
A pillare is the one you see everyone put there pillar pod on. It is on eithere side of the front windsheild.
The b pillare is behind the driver, its at the end of the side window and blocks your view when you shoulder check :P

Re: 83 gsl LSD power output
well im going to have the car probably around 400whp before i get to do suspension work, but suspension is coming in time. Also FDTT since your the most knowledgable one here, what is a good suspension setup to go with for drifting an FB? becuase i thought they didnt make coils for the FB, since its solid axle. Also, what aftermarket diff's do they have for FB's? so when i fry this one, i can put a new one in. This is a pretty custom setup, so im having to fabricate alot in the engine bay, so the cost is going up alittle from that, so that is why suspension is second to the motor...and btw FDTT...i dont do projects cheap, i only buy, and do quality work

Re: 83 gsl LSD power output
No offence and not to flame or anything, but with a name like DriftKing, one would suspect that you know what to look for in suspension, and what companies are good. Especially if you don't do cheap work.
Also, with a name like that, one would assume that you would know of the damages caused by drifting, and the damages caused by drifting with 400RWHP. Not to mention, you should also know where to look and what to look for online. I am just making all these assumptions because of your name, and the questions you are asking. To me it seems kind of silly, but hey, what do I know? I'm only 18 |

Tien has a decent drift kit from what I have been told. I am not sure how accurate these assumptions are, but the source is reliable enough. Also, since you are doing basically a custom set up, why couldn't you fabricate stuff that would fit an FC to fit your FB? |

Re: 83 gsl LSD power output
You can fit an FC front on a SA/FB. Requires a bit of work but do able.
As for drivetrain, upgrade to TII drivetrain and work from there. Suspension. Well there isnt a hole lot othere than spring and strut combos for the SA/FB out there. You coudl custom mount some coils tho. I have put JIC FLT A-2's in a friends FB but i also did a TII swap into it as well :P

Re: 83 gsl LSD power output
n00b her on the forum, but some thoughts....
An Rx-7 wont need 400HP to drift... I dont know why you think that... its a light car and if you strip the interior and run plenty of chassis bracing and a hard compound tire, I see no reason why a fairly if not stock 7 couldnt drift without a competent driver. I've run close to three hundred horse through an 81 LSD but I had Racing Beat pinion and ring gears, but I didnt drift, and you should know what drifting will do to a rear end. If you want to do something like this, get a ford 9 inch rear end. I've seen these used with success under rx-7's, although I'm not familiar with them, for all I know you'll have to shorten it or something. anyways think it over some more before you post. later.... |
