No Heating

This past week, I noticed the heating in my 2002 LS is not very strong. The temperature guage sits between 1/4 to 1/2 but the air coming out varies between fresh (not cold but barely warm). When I sit at idle, the air seems to heat up but not by much. At highway speeds, back to fresh/ambient - not hot which is what it used to be. I tested the antifreeze in the radiator. It's well over -50C. No sludge and no antifreeze smell in the car. I thought it might be the thermostat but if it was the temperature guage would always be in the cold postion. Any insight?

Re: No Heating

its winter..... I get the same thing, my needle never gets above 1/4. and I drive 30 mintues to and from work, and I only get hot air in the last 5 minutes or so.

its just too cold and with all that air moving past your radiator, that it keeps it really cold.

my suggestion.... wear a coat.

Re: No Heating

how cold is the air temp where you are at? If all else fails put some cardboard infront the the radiator but make sure you watch the engine temp so you dont overheat.

Try flushing your coolant, as some could be stuck in your heater core. Also, you can try disconnecting your battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting it to reset the car's computers. I'm not sure if the 02 imp uses electronics to control the temp or the manual sliding lever. I know none of them have digital controls, but they control things electronically to an extent, so a power drain may help.

It was -1c today. I'm going to start with a pressure test to make sure there are no leaks (fluid level in overflow seems fine). Then a coolant flush. This car was HOT in -30c weather with no problems. A cardboard would definately help, but the variation in temperature vs the past is just too much. Sorry for the late reply. I was away on vacation.

Re: No Heating

I replaced my thermostat and have had nice-hot air regardless of how cold its been, and it gets pretty nippy here in MI. Just a suggestion, cheap part too.

Nice to see you Monster. Those look somewhat slick... in a way... If only I liked the Impala grill at all.
