trans problem Related to Bad Battery?

Just bought 95 Aur,as is condition.Had to boost to get started.Driving home it ran fine about 25 miles. Then it would shift to 2nd gear but not 3rd.Ck engine light also came on.Got home shut it off.Cranked back up, started fine.Check engine light off, drove back down the road ,shifts purfect.Didnt drive very far though.Called people I bought it from they said did the same thing to them before they parked it.I know it needs battery.Just wondering if sensor or selonoid not getting correct amount of current do to bad battery

Not enough info to know for sure what your problem is. Does it shift funny after being warm? Wont go into 3rd, get stuck in second kind of revs like its in neutral? Just went through this and if those are your symptoms it could be the shift solenoids. Have to drop the lower pan and lower valve body. If you have any mechanical abilities you can do it yourself. Check posts on here for detailed instructions. Solenoid kit is about 50 from a delco parts supplier, youll need about 10-11 quarts of tranny fluid and a filter kit.

Lots of other posts on here about shift solenoids.

Good luck.

Yes .Thats exactly what its doing all the time now. I saw something on here on STS cadillacs, and it said you had to lower the engine to get to speed sensor.Does the same apply to the solenoids? Also I have a cheap scanner $160.00 Actron and it will not allow me to link up. Any Ideas? Was wandering if maybe bad PCM?

Re: Re: Re: trans problem Related to Bad Battery?

By your description i cant tell if the speed sensor is bad. You need to have it scanned to know for sure.

A bad solenoid wont always give a code - that happened to me on my 96. My previous post describes solenoid access as well as numerous threads on this forum. Its not in the same area as the speed sensor.

If you have a 95 , you cant use an obd ii scanner.

If you have the symtoms and can do the solenoids yourself you should do it.

Cant do the speed sensor without the right tools. Air comp with big impact to drop the cradle. Good floor jack, at least 4 stands. And most of all the diagram from the cadillac forum to show which bolts in the side valve body to remove. Its at least an 8 hour job for the first timer and thats assuming you have all the right tools and a clean place to work. Depending on which sensor you have that job could be done for about 200 assuming you replace fluid, both side filters and you replace every seal and gasket you remove.

Good luck.

Re: trans problem Related to Bad Battery?

Thanks a bunch man! I believe I will try the solenoids. After reading all the other post,I think your right. If its not the solenoids, it would be the exception.I believe the rule for these symptoms is the solenoids.
Thanks
