Downloading Photoshop

What do you guys think about it, right or wrong to do? At the most basic level I am stealing, I am downloading work and information that a company has the rights and sells for money. But really, what harm is being done? Don't confuse my argument with downloading a program and downloading music via P2P. I have a whole seperate argument for music, but that's for another time.

Anyways, I don't see what's wrong with it for two basic reasons:

1) I would never buy Photoshop. The free photo program that came with my camera has all the same features I need, resizing, rotating, brightness, and color. That's all I really need in a photo editing program. But I've been using PS for years and I just find it more comfortable and easier. My other photo software was free, and if I can PS for free as well, why not go with PS? But Adobe is not losing any money from me downloading their software, because I would never buy it anyways. Well, except maybe in the future, which brings me to my next point..

and 2) I don't use PS for what it is intended for. I guess this is similar to my last point, but PS is designed for professional photographers and graphic artists. I mean sure, if I was a professional and I was using the software for a monetary gain, of course I would purchase the program. I just really can't see the need for every joe who uses the program just for the most basic functions needs to pay the full $500 or whatever price it is.

Thoughts?

i think its obviouse that the majority of people who have photoshop got it illegally.. and honestly, i think adobe purposely doesnt do anything... the adverage person would never think of spending hundreds of dollars just to try out a program, so they get it off line and the standard 30 day trial is not long enough to fully test out the program... by adobe letting people use the program illegally this pretty much free advertising...

if a serious person were to use photoshop illegally for several years and then decide that they wanted to use it in their career, they would have to have a legalized version.. thus paying...

all the other people who have it illegally are the people that wouldnt waiste their money to buy it if adobe were to stop them, but they do get other potential buyers interested...

legally and morally i supose its wrong, but i dont think adobe or the people care

No he didn't. He bought photoshop elements, which is a stripped down version. IN ANY CASE... if you want free image editing software with stealing it, go open source. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP

oh and ditto on what yogs said.

no, he didn't buy elements, he bought a student edition of photoshop like i said. it's excatly the same as photoshop but intended for use whereby an educational organisation pays for a licence and they can use a certain number of the program.

please don't assume that i'm wrong, i do actually know what it was he bought because i use it daily.

How about lets not?
Infact if anyone posts anything in here about how to obtain illegal software they will get a one week ban.

This is a debate about the morality of it.
