License Plate Bolts

Daughter just bought a 2000 Jetta through an E-Bay auction. Unfortunately, the car came without any license plate bolts. Its not a problem yet, cause the temporary tag is still in the rear window, and we're waiting to get the out-of-state title to title it here. I didn't think anything about it, but apparently VW tends to do things a little differently than what I'm used to.

It appears the front plate can be attached with just about any reasonably sized screw, screwing it into the plastic mount.

The problem looks like its going to be the rear tag. It appears that Volkswagen has provided threaded holes in the trunk lid to attach the tag with. Anybody know what size bolts to use? I'm guessing they're metric. I've looked in a few auto parts stores, but they seem to have only english license plate bolts. I did find one set of plastic metric ones, but they appeared to be way too long, and I'm not sure they were even the right diameter.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
