Trans Am vs. Trans Am Gt

What is the difference between the two cars? A Trans Am is a firebird with the body package and better suspension right? So what is a GT?

Re: Trans Am vs. Trans Am Gt

okay I just checked up and it seems that I was wrong and there was a T/A GT version, and all it was, was a more luxurious version of the T/A

BTW the T/A isnt one with a body package and better suspension, its the V8 Version..

Firebird:V6
Trans Am:V8 with some better stuff
Formula: V8 and lighter
WS.6: V8 and a bit heavier and a bit more HP than a regular trans am.

Re: Trans Am vs. Trans Am Gt

in 1994 Pontiac offered the "GT" version. this was probably a marketing attempt to create yet another segment. That year the "base" Trans Am would come with the little Firebird spoiler, it came with all season radials and the 115 mph speedo (and the 108 mph computer set speed limit). the "GT" verison came with the 155 mph speedo, no speed limit and Z rated tires. Probably cost more.

In the first few years of the 4th gen's release, the cars were offerd with either the 115mph speedo, all season radials and the 108 mph speed limit. If you got the z rated tires, you got the 155 mph speedo and your car wasn't locked down at 108mph.

Later 4th gens didn't have this, they all got the 155 mph speedo, etc. I want to say that they dropped this crap around '96, but I could be wrong. The 2 versions were still available in 1995...

Re: Trans Am vs. Trans Am Gt

here is a little write up that i take to car shows with me, cuz everyone wants to know what the hell a trans am GT is and about my color.

1994 Pontiac Trans Am GT
This car has a number of traits that make it unique and rare.
1994 was the only year the GT option was available on 4th generation Trans Ams. The GT option package was essentially the most extreame Trans Am you could get straight form the factory. The well known WS6 package was not available until 1996. The GT package was loaded with cosmetic upgrades, wheel and tire upgrades, stereo upgrades and suspension upgrades. There were only 6,357 GTs made. Of those only 1,800 were hard tops. most customers elected for the T-Top option. Further, most customers elected leather, and a great deal bought automatics, only 1,346 GTs were 6-speed. Finally, the rare “purple grey metallic” color option. The least popular color GM had available, but easily one of the most attractive on a Trans am.

LT1 5.7l V8 350
Borg-warner t-56 6-speed manual
Hard top
GM Purple Grey Metallic
Under 43k original miles
