Torque converter stalls speeds
I have ordered a rebuilt trans from Monster Motorsports. The trans is supposed to be good to 500 HP which i'm sure I'll never see but I need help picking a torque converter. I read in a post by 94lt1formulaV8 that said most people like a 2800 stall for a stock lt1 but will the car still be a good daily driver with a stall that high? My son drives this car to school alot and we would like to take it to the strip occasionally.
We have a 93 trans am lt1 with magnaflow mufflers and no cat. Here is a link to the trans I am buying if anyone is interested. I payed $925 for the trans and converter on ebay. http://racetransmissions.com/store/p...products_id/32 Any opinions on the converter or my trans choice will be appriciated. Thanks... |

Re: Torque converter stalls speeds
2800 should be fine for a daily driver. I have a 2600 and don't have any issues. I skimmed but whats the stall speed your looking at and I would not recommend anything over 3K for a daily driver but others seem to be fine with them.

I think you'll love a 2800 stall. It should be plenty streetable for you and your son while making the car a wee bit more fun to drive
I say go for it.

Thanks for the replies. Monday I called and talked to the tech. at Monster transmissions and he said he would no way go with any higher stall speed than 2000 and would prefer to stick with the stock 1650 unless I have an aftermarket cam. He said that I would notice and not like the car not taking off until it reached 2800 rpm. He said that the trany would perform at its best with the 1650 so I guess I will stick with that for now. I'll let you all know how the trany performs.
Thanks again... |

Re: Torque converter stalls speeds
Well unfortunetly thats not all correct info you were given but always do what you think is best for your vehicle and the way it will be used. So good luck to you.
