I have a 99 dx hatch and was looking at camshafts and cams. Does anyone know who makes a good camshaft for my car (engine code is d16y7)? I know crower makes a camshaft for d16y engines but the website lists applications for soch w/ vtec. Does that make a difference since my car does not have vtec on it? As for cams I was looking at aem or unorthodox racing. Any opinions? Any other makers worth looking into? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Have you considered an Ex head swap?

you cannot use a VTEC cam in a non-VTEC head... the rocker/followers wont line up properly.
Zex makes a cam for your car that has been proven to make a decent amount of power. it has short overlap for forced induction use, but it does feature higher lift, producing more power. www.zex.com also consider regrinding the cam... they can increase lift and overlap for naturally aspirated motors and also save you a little bit of money. crower, gude, or webcam should be your best bets. www.crower.com www.gude.com |

yeah I would do the EX swap. Also Skunk 2 should make cams if you are really content with the D15 beast.

you could do a D16 head swap and get Vtec or just get a Gude or Crane cam to put in your ride and be set...
I have heard alot of peopel that are plaeased w/ Gude and the performance gains from it..I'm waiting for a Camshaft for mine to come in and it's Gude and will also throw a AEM cam gear in with it... Good luck on your decision...:frog:

Thanks for all your suggestions! But I do have one question though: I just want to make sure that my car does NOT have vtec in it. Am I right? I have a 1999 civic dx hatchback (automatic). I'm pretty sure it doesn't have vtec (engine code is d16y7). So far the only one that makes a camshaft for a d16y7 is gude (bullfrog) but the website description is "pulls hard top end". Since I'm looking for just more power on the streets, I'm looking more for more low end power or more torque. Anyone got any other suggestions?

No you're car is not Vtec equiped. And you're not gonna get much low end power from your Dx engine unless you go forced induction. C'est La Vie.
