ABS probs w/ 96 si
Hi, new member w/ a brake prob. I have intermitant abs prob where I get loud electronic sounds from front passenger side of car, followed by strong pulsating in the brake pedal. My abs light used to go/stay on as soon as car started moving, but after temp. dropped (in MI) it seems that the ABS is now working? I can feel the difference in how it brakes and light rarely comes on, but I still get loud noises and jerking pulses on brake pedal still. Just before the car finally comes to a stop: The brakes work normal with no pulses/noise, The car comes closer to full stop then pulsating/noises begin, Then just as car comes to complete stop the brake pedal goes down to the floor? I assume some pressure is released in the ABS system and it is quite scarry 'cause you think you've come to a complete stop.. but then the pressure is released (without letting up on pedal) and the car goes forward slightly. I was told that this could only be detected by diagnostic check if the abs light was on, which indicates that something isn't functioning as it should.. If anyone had/has the same prob. let me know, I have no idea how much this will cost to repair and would like to have some idea. All help is greatly appreciated!

Re: ABS probs w/ 96 si
uhhh.. doesn't the ABS have it's own computer?.... if it does.... check it out - replace it necessary... check the wheel sensors too... they could be freakin out on ya...

The same thing happened to my '96 Accord. The most likely thing is that the ABS modulator unit went bad. A new one from the dealer is around $1000, but I got one off an integra at Honda Heaven, a great junk yard, for a little less than $300. I can almost garentee that is the problem.
