RPM's running high...
I got into my truck this evening and started it up and noticed that she was running a little higher pitch than usual. The RPM's were at 2500 in park. When I put it into drive they went down to 1500. When I put it into nutral the RPM's shot up again. When I put it into park it makes a nasty grinding noise and runs high on the RPM's. This one has me stumped, any ideas were I should probally look first?
Any feedback is gratly appreciated. JP |

Any Codes? (Not sure what year of Ranger, this will only work on 96 and lower models.) http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/ Just a question, it really could be a lot of different things.. Has the intake been modified in anyway? If the heated intake system has been removed, and it's extremely cold outside, it may be suffering from a frozen throttle body. Pete |

Well today I cleaned out the throttle body and the problem went away. It was reving high, no power loss. For those who may do a search on this in the future, or just for your knowledge, if ever you have the symptoms I have described the first places to look would be: 1) vaccum leak (hoses and such) 2) Throttle position sensor 3) the IAC as Pete has mentioned above. 4) or it could be a gummed up throttle body needing some cleaning. Easy fixes so dont panic! Anyone please correct me if I am wrong. Pete thanks for the feedback! |

I never would have thought that a dirty throttle body would cause such a high idle.Pete |
