86 wagon "the beast "
my buddy has an 86 caprice wagon that was wrecked and donated to him by a family member, sinced the frankenstein has come into our hands it has been cleaned up, gutted, chopped, lifted had off road lights installed and many more plans. we need a forward driverside door or a door of another year that will fit. we could also use a few good links to find one if one such door is not just laying around. we have pulled the a/c system if anyone needs it compressor, reciever-drier, lines blower motor etc. also have pics if anyone is interested. were trying to find a cheap rebuild kit for the 305 but every kit we find is inclusive of only 85' and earlier 305's. why is this. whats different in the 86' and up model 305's. any help is greatly appreciated

Re: 86 wagon "the beast "
1st. Are you sure it's a 305? Most wagons from that era had Oldsmobile 307s in them. The Olds engine has the EGR valve on the driver's side, and the oil fill on a tube at the front of the engine. You can verify this by looking at your VIN - the 8th digit will be a Y if it's an Olds 5.0, an H if it's a Chevy 5.0, or a 6 if its a Chevy 5.7 (350).
2nd. The small-block Chevy up to an including the '85 model year has a two-piece rear seal, and the '86-up has a one-piece rear seal. The cranks, block and flywheel/flexplate are different to accomodate the seal change. |
