Wheel bearing????
For about two weeks I have noticed that my 2000 montana has been a bit sluggish, I was thinking something was amiss but when not broke, dont fix.
Well today on the way home from work I hear what sounds like a screw in a tire hitting the pavement as it goes around. It goes faster as I go faster, and goes away when stopped. It also could be described as a whirring noise Since it is snowy I purposely drove in the snow to see if the sound would go down, it didnt. My tranny fluid was changed just this past summer and otherwise the tranny seems fine, it shifts ok and was up to 70 this morning on the interstate although it did seem to be down on power and didnt like it when I tried to go into passing gear. I am probably looking at a wheel bearing, right???? I am going to go out and do a bit more investigating right now. Anyone know what a wheel bearing runs in this thing? Thanks for any help. |

Re: Wheel bearing????
Could be a wheel bearing or a CV joint. Usually bearings are a constant whir or grind, whereas a CV joint is more of a tick or click, and it can sometimes be worse when you are turning left or right.....but to be fair, they may all sound a little bit different, so you'll want to make sure you diagnose it properly.
You might jack up the wheel you suspect and check the CV joint and/or spin the wheel and listen for noise, check for looseness, etc.. Good luck! Glen |
