Unhappy ABS Light On

Hey guys, I'm a newbie here. I just picked up at 96 acura 3.2 TL with only 134,000 KMs. It's in Mint condition however the Abs light seems to come on every so often. I've taken it to the dealer to have it checked but no luck, no codes, and sometimes, it doesn't light up when they check it. I've read other posts about it needing a tune up or a fuel injection. I was wondering if anyone has gotten any possible solutions to this before I start dumping more money into this problem? Any help is much appreciated.

HI,
I have 91 Acura Legend with 192000 miles. The ABC light is on all the time for the past 50000 miles. Dealer could not fix it. No functional problems.

Hey Energy Blade - I have the EXACT same problem. Did you figure out what the issue was with your car?

Thanks

Re: ABS Light On

You may have to get code read out when the light is on.
If it comes on again do not turn off ign. Head it for the dealer or some place that has a ABS capable scanner and get it checked.
Some abs systems wwill clear thereself when the ign is turned off and will not set the light or a code untill the problem happens again.
Good luck and if you can get a code no. post it back.

Hey MT
Thanks a ton for replying.

Autozone does free OBDII code scanning. Is an OBDII all we need or do we need a ABS capable OBDII scanner?

Took it to an Acura specialist but the light refused to come up that day. the very next day it popped up again.

Re: ABS Light On

OBD11 scan will not pick up ABS codes.
You will need a ABS capable scanner.
Also you may have to scan when the light is on.
Not many auto zone store can scan for ABS codes.

This is a good link to read about it - http://www.troublecodes.net/acura/

The part # is SCS service connector special tool No. 07PAZ-0010100. I rang up the nearest dealer and this one goes for 16.XX bucks.

I did some more googling and everybody seemed to be jumping with a paper clip bent into a U shape so that's exactly what I did. I groped around the passenger dash for the Blue SCS and found it. I had to depress a plunger to pull it out of it's protective casing. I put the the two ends of the paper clip into the female connectors and turned the ingnition key to [Did not start the engine - just turned it to ON to the position where all the lights come up on the instrument panel].

The ABS and TCS lights went crazy blinking. For a minute I thought they were connected and I was trying to read them in conjunction but then I assumed I have to look at each in isolation. So I sat and studied each light (ABS and TCS) for some time. Here's what they flashed back at me:

ABS
Long Flash + Short Flash + Short Flash + Short Flash
Pause
Long Flash + Short Flash + Short Flash + Short Flash + Short Flash
Pause
REPEAT OF THE ABOVE

I assume this converts to DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) - 13 and 14

TCS
Long Flash + Long Flash + Long Flash + Long Flash + Short Flash + Short Flash
Pause
Long Flash + Long Flash
Pause
REPEAT OF THE ABOVE

I assume this converts to DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) - 42 and 2

So here are the codes. The question is where do i go from here. Would you be able to help me figure out what these codes mean?

I am not too bothered about the TCS codes since that light has just come on once when the car had old tires. After I've changed the tires I haven't noticed the TCS light coming on but the ABS light does come on every so often.

Thanks for your help.

BE CAREFULL OUT THERE Grandblah
About what you tell people to jump.
If you jump the wrong thing you can wipe out a 1K dollars worth of computers.
You 97 is a long way from a 96 3.2 TL acura
A 96 takes different checking equipment.
The link you posted is for checking engine codes and states that 96 up is OBD11 and requires a scanner to test.
The 96 acura 3.2 TL requires a 7HAJ-SGOO10B HONDA abs TESTER TO check the ABS system.

Jumping into someone elses post with a different vechicle and may be a different problem can get you to many confusing answers.
If you want help on your 97 start a new post and give us all info including make and model and year and engine and trans.

That makes sense. I am deleting my post from here and creating a new fresh one.

Thanks for pointing it out.
