Aarrrgggg!!!!
I'm working on my Raybrig NSX and was 80% done with polishing the rear bumper when i wasnt paying attention and polished right throgh to the primer. VERY frustrating!! So here's my question....How many base coats do you people out there spray on? And do you guys out there sand in between coats? your replys are much appreciated!!!

Sometimes it really depends on the paint you are using. Sometimes it's thick, other times it is not. When using thick paint, I tend to use just one or two coats. When it comes to the thinner paints, I'll probably got to 3 or 4 coats, but sprayed lightly as to keep an even finish.

I try to always use Acrylic Paint with my paintbrush...
For Dark Color, i make 1 or 2 coat..... Bright color I made at least 2 coat

Hi !
I always painted my car models with Tamiya spray ! I spray a first coat of Primer, then I sand with 1000-2000 papers Then I spray the first coat of color. I sand with 1000-2000 papers I spray a second coat of color, then I sand one more time the inperfections with sand paper. I repeat it until I get a good paint without dust. Generally, it's 4 or 5 coats. For example, my last kit was the Raybrig too and I sprayed 4 coats of color and 2 of clear. I'll try to scan some pics of the finished model ! Ciao Steve

hmmm..maybe thats why i polished right through the paint...its cause i only have 2 base coats of the Raybrig blue on. I use light coats, so that might be the reason also.

Well every one has there own way of doing things.
But for me i do this... Make sure you sand the car well...removing molding lines etc. Finish off with 1200 grit paper. Before painting, heat the can up in hot water for 10 minutes 2 Coats of primer 3-4 Coats of finish about 10 minutes apart....thats it...nice a simple. Dont bother sanding between coats as i dont really see the point...all you are doing is making more dust and removing half the paint you have just stick on. After you have finished the last coat...leave for 10-12 days.......rub lightly with some compound then finish with a wax. Works for me
