94 explorer problem

I need help. T have a 94 explorer with 174k+ miles. for the pass two months I have had a problem with no solutions. Some times when starting from a stop there is no acceleration, applying more gas pedal doesn't improve the situation, then something will change and it will take off. This will happen with a cold or hot engine. Also will at times have a lack of power when crusing at 65mph. The engine light will come on randomly, sometimes when having the problem other times when no problem. Most of the time there are no codes when scaned.
We have replaced the O2 sensors, mass airflow sensor and DPFE sensor with no change. The fuel pump seems to put out a constant 28.
If anyone has some suggestions I would really appreciate them.

Re: 94 explorer problem

On your vehicle, you need to have the codes checked before you turn the key off. If the light comes on and you can have the codes read, go have it done while vehicle is still running.

Re: 94 explorer problem

I had the same problem with my 94 Limited. I noticed it only did this when the fuel was below 1/4 tank. The pump would heat up and either stall, limit fuel pressure or work fine. I replaced the pump and it runs fine. I did hook up the old pump on the bench and found it did seize after running.

Check your converters to see if they are partially plugged. I replaced the ones on my 91 which had lack of power constantly.

Autozone can check these codes for you. The connector is under the hood, passenger side behind the air cleaner

Make sure the plastic snorkle running from the MAFS to the throttle chamber does not have any cracks in it.

Hope some of this helps
