WA ticket help
For all you law guys I could use your help. I live in WA, goto EWU, eastern washington university, and was pulled over by a EWU police officer. Its all snowy here, slick on the roads, and im driving my friends 91 geo thing. Im coming upto a 4way stop right infront of my dorm and feel crazy so i, at about 10 mph, pull the ebrake and 180 in the intersection, let ppl out, and proceed to find a parking space, which was a left had i stopped at the sign. The cop was coming from my original left and flipped a bitch behind meand pulled me over. I didnt have my wallet but my buddy gave him his license and reg. I got cited for RCW 46.61.190 failure to stop at a stopsign, $101 and RCW 46.20.017, No license on person, $101. I dont especially want another ticket on my record, nor would i like to pay for it. I looked online and found RCW 46.61.245, Drivers to exercise care, which begins with "Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this chapter" meaning its more important than all lower number codes, i think, and it just states not to hit pedestrians. So could i say that someone was in the road, causing me to swerve and lock my wheels and 180 into the intersection and therefore am not guilty of illegally violating my original citation as I followed the superior one? And is there anything i can do about the failure to produce ID immeaditely? Thanks guys!

Re: WA ticket help
Well first off if you really dont want another ticket on your licesnse, then you should stop getting the urge to "feel crazy" as you put it.
Second. If you provided the officer with proof of you I.D. via your SSN or your license number, then you should be OK, as long as you tell the judge. but why in the hell would you give the officer your friends ID. he was not operating the car. and third if the officer saw you perform that wonderful Im "feeling crazy" stunt, then he saw that was no one in the intersection, and will state that in his facts to the court, and if you "FEEL CRAZY", an try and LIE, they will hammer you. |

Re: WA ticket help
I have to agree. First you need to stop driving like a smuck. Second you need to start carrying your license with you. Third you can fight the ticket. In MA we can give tickets for not having proper identification which is a fine from $25 - $100. You might want to tell the truth at court if not they can throw the book at you and you would really be screwed.

Ok well doing a slow 180 in the snow at 2am with NO one around in a city of 10k ppl is hardly driving like a smuck IMO. But either way it happened and now I need help. I never gave him my lic # or SSN, only my name address and DOB, he looked up the rest. When i said i gave him my friends lic and reg i meant reg and insurance. This was probably the one day out of the past 10 years I didnt have my license, and only because I switched to my snow pants as i was sledding earlier that night. My friend just didnt want to drive and had asked me to. The cop said he was letting me off easy cuz I could have gotten negligent driving, which is annoying after my friend did donuts in a parking lot for 45 min the a different cop just said to leave. Anyone else got some ideas? Thanks

well if doing a 180 in the snow at 2am wasnt driving like a shumck. I dont what is. At the intersection did the sign say STOP or did it say STOP or DO A 180, if no one is around .? If the latter is the case then you have nothing to worry about.. but I doubt that it said do a 180. You screwd up, now be a man an face the music. Second this one time will help you to remember to keep your license on you for another 10 years. and as for you getting annoyed because your friend got caught doing donuts in a private parking lot, not on the PUBLIC roadway, and your mad because he got off, and you got a ticket.. SO WHAT. |

I dunno what your so grumpy about. It was a school parking lot, so not essentially private. Ive been readin other posts and its funny that the 2 guys who replied to me, cop crazy and chevy 4 life are the ones going around bashing everyone else on here for going fast, driving wreckless, crashing. But they read my post about playing in the snow and it seems its just as, if not more, dangerous than 60 over. Your sarcastic and unwitty comments arent helping. If you dont want to help me out then dont post. I was trying to be polite and ask in a medium where fellow ppl who drive cars but arent old and enjoy bending the law for a little safe controlled excitement every now and again could help me out but so far all ive gotten is ridicule that i enjoy driving and can safely manuever the trickiest of college show off stunts. If i offend you with my CRAZY, WILD, LIFE-THREATING driving, dont reply, thats not what im asking for. If you want to help me out as a fellow driver who has had their fun or maybe still does, i would greatly appreciate suggestions. I just dont get why you come on here to bash and "shame". Does it make you feel better? I didnt start off disrepecting you personally, why do you think you need to? Thanks to peope who might help!

Re: WA ticket help
Well first off i might have bashed you but I also told you advice. Go back and read my post. Another thing is you complain when you get bashed yet YOU broke the law, got caught, told us and we simply stated to stop driving the way you are. Im not here to bash peeps but if you did something dumb we simply tell you not to do it. If you are going to do it then just pay the price for your own actions. Im only 20 and ive done my share of stupid things but i dont come on here and bitch cuz I got caught. You pay the fine and get over it or you can do what i told you fight it, and try to get it off your record or reduced.

Re: WA ticket help
OK guys, everybody has done something stupid in their lives. And while in theory, I agree, he made a mistake he shouldn't be getting angry. You could have a little sympathy as he has probably already heard it from the cop, his friends/family, whatever. He didn't post on here to hear more of it from random strangers, so while you are correct...he was driving illegally and could have been driving better, we all make mistakes...so let's just drop it.
To the original poster, just plead not guilty, go to court and fess up. If you bring BS and lies to the judge, he will laugh and nail you. They have heard it all before, just tell the truth, and you may get lucky and he might drop/reduce one or both of the fines. If you still have points, take a defensive driving course or traffic school and get them removed.

Re: WA ticket help
The only reason that I can think of that he didn't get a ticket is that it wasn't on a roadway. In my area the cops with just ask you to leave for doing donuts, as long as your not a jerk to the cop. I do the same stuff when I'm up home from college. The trick is just knowing the area and knowing when it is the right time to do stuff. Just a word of the wise, campus cops are dicks. Trust me I know, been hasseled alot by them for bs.
