95 Accord VTEC - WHERES THE POWER?
I have been patient for years, but its getting to me. I was in my buddy's non-vtec 94 accord the other day and his ride is so much more smoother than mine. it seems more powerful too. my ride is amazing when i pass 3500 rpms.. but before that, its loud and hogs power. any suggestions???????? new cat????

Re: 95 Accord VTEC - WHERES THE POWER?
If it runs good on the top end and higher rpm, there's no problem with the cat. Cat restriction will make it fall on it's face under high rev operation.
Ever done a timing belt on it? Maybe it's clocked slightly wrong.

Re: 95 Accord VTEC - WHERES THE POWER?
If you got a big noisy exhaust on it without the intake mods to match, that'll make it loose low end torque and have poor throttle response also...

Do you have an auto? Does your friend have a manual tranny?

Re: 95 Accord VTEC - WHERES THE POWER?
Go buy a vacuum gauge if you don't have one. They are only about $25, and can save you a lot of guessing.
Attach to a manifold vacuum source (between the throttle plate and engine, not before) and watch the reading. For testing I have a long hose I put on mine and tape the gauge to the windshield so I can drive and watch what's happening. You should read 18-21 inches of vacuum at warmed up idle. Any lower indicates retarded cam or ignition timing. Your reading should be stable, not wandering. When you pop the throttle it should drop to zero and recover when you let off. Holding the throttle at a steady rpm will give you a reading that should be stable, but lower than at idle. If the reading falls off the longer you hold it open, there is a restriction in the intake or exhaust.
