airbag light on and turn signals won't work... It's not the clockspring!?!?

A week ago my airbag light came on and my turn signals quite working. I looked at a bunch of the entries in the older forums and they all say it is the clockspring. I had that replaced at the dealership and it didn't fix any of the problems. Also when I looked at the older older entries, the people were having problems with their horns and cruise control. My van doesn't have cruise control, it's a 1998 Plymouth Voyager. My horn is working fine too. My motor blower quite working the day after the airbag light came on and the turn signals quite working. My hazards work though!! I know that the reason the motor blower isn't working is because the relay switch under the hood in the fuse box isn't kicking on. The piece itself is working, it's just whatever is giving power to the relay, and I have no clue what that is!?!?

Disconnect the battery for a while then hook it back up. I had this happen to my van and that for some odd reason fixed the problem. There is also a way to have the computer throw codes at ya if you know how to use your ignition switch. try that and see what it says. Keep in mind if you disco the battery prior to looking at codes it will throw you a coad for the battery being disconnected within the last 50 starts or something like that. Everything that happened to me kinda pointed to the body control modual, and I think pulling the plug may have reset it in some sort of way... Hope this helps.

Did you change anything in the electrical system to cause it to become unstable ?

No, I was driving down the road when the air bag light came on. Then I noticed that my turn signals didn't work, and my heater quit working. I don't really care about the air bag light. The heat would be nice though, considering it's in the single digits here. And the turn signals would be nice also.

Did you see if it was giving you any codes by using the ignition switch trick? The problem becomes way more complex if it is not the simple fix problems. I bought a 20 dollar manual that told me to switch out the Body Control Modual. I got lucky and never had to do that, and after looking at the instructions I was glad I didn't have too.
Go to a junk yard and pull the BCM off of a van that is totaled out. Don't pull the BCM out of a van that has little damage. It is always a good idea to have one on hand. You may need to switch it out, but I would have a person from the dealership tell you that. The great part of having one on hand is that it will cost you WAY less. The dealer ALWAY trys to jack you on the part itself, or so I have found.
Now if you want to get wild you could try this. Here is my thinking, a true solid state computer RARLY just goes bad. Most of the time it ends up being a software glitch. Pull the battery cable, and do EVERYTHING you can to drain ANY power source. People often dont understand that capasitors and suck often keep a charge in place to keep things live to some extent. I belive it is CRITICAL to cut ALL power from the BCM, in my mind this will prompt the software to reload from flash. The key is to get the BCM back to a stable state.
If that don't work the only other thing would be to change the BCM. or have a dealer maybe point you in another direction I have not thought of, tell me how it turns out. I really like seeing fixes from another perspective.

Mnewman, If I may make a suggestion, Lets pick one problem and go from there. I agree it's not your clockspring. Your air bag light probably has something to do with one of your other problems. Lets pick the one that irritates you most and go from there. Chances are they are all related but by focusing on one, we may discover the answer to all. Otherwise we'll chase our tail in a cicle.
Pick one other than the clockspring and let's go from there.

I found my problem. I traced it to a wire leading to the ignition switch. The wire had been cut to install a remote start system, and it pulled out of the connector.

If you are having the same problem, and your fuses aren't blown, check to see if you have power going to the fuse. If not, the problem lies in the black wire, which runs from the ignition switch to the fusebox.
