Angry I'm ready to push my rs off a cliff..

Hey guys. I drive a non-turbo 95 rs and when I went out to start it this morning the damn thing wouldn't start. It turns over but it doesn't fire. The battery is good, the plugs and wires are good and I didn't see any hoses off or anything. I took it into the shop a couple of months ago for the exact same problem and they said it was just my plugs and wires. Yeah right. Now it's doing the same thing again. Anyways, anyone got any ideas what else I should check? Also how much would a code scanner cost me for the car? Thanks

I forgot to add that I checked the codes with the engine light and it's 5 pause 5. Anyone know what this could be? thanks again.

Did you pull the plugs just to make sure they were still in good shape? What types of plugs are you using? How do you know the battery is good?

Definitly change the battery or get it tested, I wouldnt be surprised is thats the problem! Also when the CEL flashes 5 pauses 5, that means that is the end of any problems with the car! (In other word: make sure you didnt miss any flashes before 5,5)

Had the battery checked last week at autozone when it started getting cold and it was fine. This is gonna sound stupid but I have no idea what plugs they replaced mine with. They changed the wires and plugs before asking me. Do you think the plugs went bad after two months? I'm hoping I'm not burnin em up that quick

It all depends on what type of garbage they put in for you

Pull the plugs and see what brand they are, and if they are in ok shape and we will go from there.

I hear ya, it's about 35 where I'm at, and later on today I have to wash the beast and clean it up and get it ready for storage this winter. Not gonna be a fun few hours.

hey man, sometimes the SIMPLEST things are very often looked over, just makin sure you got everything covered.

anyways.... have you checked for spark at the end of the plug? just by looking at the wires and plugs may not be the whole thing. a car needs 3 things to run: fuel, spark, and air. you can rule out air....now just check for spark and fuel. make sure your getting spark at the end of the plugs (and that the plugs aren't fouled) and if you pull out the plugs and dry them off and then stick them back in and crank the car over, they should be wet when you pull them back out.

No offense taken on the smartass comment I hope ;p
Anyways, thanks for the tip, much appreciated. I'll check for that when I pull em. One more thing...I'm not a man

Re: I'm ready to push my rs off a cliff..

Nice to see a girl taking the initiative to fix her own car. You just earned a merit badge in my books. It sounds like a battery to me. Were the spark plugs gapped right? Was this problem fixed right after the plugs and wires were replaced?

Re: I'm ready to push my rs off a cliff..

I'm having the same problem. Car turns over, then dies... 5 times it takes at times. I was thinking the IAC motor was bad. I think the O2 sensor may be going bad. Going to datalog it to see how it's acting. Get the O2 checked, and maybe the coilpack.

Like gt said, it's spark or fuel. I'd agee that it's probably spark.

1) Look at fuses. Like, the alt. fuse.
2) Plugs
3) Look into the battery again. Sudden temperature shifts, and particularly cold weather, wreck hell on batteries.
4) Listen to your fuel pump. Has it ever been rewired?
5) Check the voltage to the pump.

I'm betting battery. Meh, let us know.
