Ignition issues! PLEASE HELP!!
Hi yall, first time poster here. Got an issue with a 1996 Cavalier 2.2l about 131,000 miles.
Got a problem with my car not starting all of a sudden. I got in my car and had a slight problem starting my car at first. I had to push in a little and lift up on my key to start my car. drove off for about 10 minutes and came back but could not turn my key from the on position to the off position. Like my key was just stuck in the run position. While i was trying to shut my car off i heard like a crackle popping sound. Still could not shut my car off until i just used more force to turn the key and heard a slight pop. Now when I put my key in the ignition and turn it the radio and all the lights and bells start up like normal but my car does not crank at all. Thinking it the ignition switch but not sure. Tried to buy an key lock cylinder but no one carried the part. Is that part hard to get or expensive? Or could it be the ignition switch? I took the key cylinder out and used a screw driver to start my car and like before the lights and raido come on like it s going to start but nothing. but unfortnately now my Theft light stays on. I dunno whats up i m just hoping someone had the same problem can help me before i go out and spend money on parts that i dont need. I dont have power windows or anything everything is manual. Thanks again for reading this I |

I had an 89 cav z24 with the same problem the car had trouble starting and then one day it just died goin up the road. when i tried to restart the car the lights and radio would work just like the car was ready to start but the ngine wouldnt turn over. it turned out to be the ignition switch had shorted out. once i replaced it i had no problems with the car starting.

Re: Ignition issues! PLEASE HELP!!
I'm pretty sure it's just the ignition. The same thing happened to me on my 2001 not to long ago. The wire that directs power to the battery wasn't sending the correct voltage or something along those lines. Just take it in and let them know that.
