I can kinda picture it but it is really crazy! I don't think that amn will ever reach the far end of the universe. (we'd have to be able to go faster than the speed o' light)

BTW, I hit big .5k with this one.

Thumbs up

I can't really picture something that is infinite. Everytime I try to imagine space in my mind, it turns into a photgraph that I'm looking at.

But, think of the other end....there is an end to the universe! Well, then what's beyond that?

Yeah, this really screws with my head too. It's impossible for there to be an end to the universe, because there would be nothing, and you could not exist. But it's also unimaginable that it goes on forever. I'll just keep thinking about right here.

Question

You know . . .

The idea that our universe may be finite isn't so strange to me . . . it just gets interesting when I try to imagine what makes it finite.

If there is an end to our universe, how is it contained? How is it bound? I mean . . . what/where are it's boundaries . . .

Yeah, I've thought that too. Also, what is the black/dark part we see every night?

You mean space? What makes it black anyways?

. . . hmm . . .

I guess it's black because there is no light . . .

Dark is the default . . . light must be created . . . just like cold/hot . . .

cold is the default . . . heat must be created.

right?!

pretty much. Black is the color of nothing. It is the absence of light, generated or reflected.

Space isn't black, it's empty. So when you look, there's nothing to see. So, you should see what's behind it, which is also nothing. There's nothing there, so there's nothing there to generate or reflect light.

It's a mind blowing to me to think about our universe. So you live your life within this bubble we call Earth ( & The Atmosphere). You die and your body is burried or cremated. Depending upon your religion you will go to heaven or be reincarnated or whatever you believe in. Your physical body will stay on the earth forever or until the earth is terminated. So then there's no earth. Outside our universe, what is there? Nothing? Who knows? If there is nothing, no more human existance, what's next? There would be nothing. Everything we live for and do, would be over. There might still be aliens :grey:, but everything in our realm of perspective on our daily lives would be over. Sounds pretty boring to me.

we know that light from stars a billon miles away is just reaching us today...if space is infinite and there are infinate stars then even though it may take billions and billions and billions of years wont the sky eventual be so full of stars that space will be the color of light instead of black.

I don't know about the 'infinite stars' thing. If there were, then space wouldn't really be space. It would be infinitely massive, and there would be no absence that we call space. At that point, Earth probably wouldn't have formed either, as the matter that comprises it would have been absorbed into that infinite massiveness.
