Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
Hey guys, I have a 2001 Blazer LT 2x4 and it's got the 4.3 v6. Sometimes when I go to start the car after it's sat for 8hrs or longer when you feel the car turn over, it feels like the car moves a little bit. It's been a feeling that has been happening now for a few months, and not everytime. If you drive the car and don't let it sit you never feel this, but it sorta "feels" like the car moves forward a little bit. It's just a weird feeling but if it's something easy to fix I'd go ahead and do it.
Any ideas on what could cause this at startup and such? Everything has just been done to the motor (new plugs, air filter, wires, oil etc...) and I've only had the truck for a couple of months. It has 75,xxx miles on it. Any help would be greatly appricated! |

Re: Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
If it's a standard your clutch is draging a little.
Then the best cure is just stick in in neutral for starting Plus you might want to bleed the clutch if possible. Check the fluid level |

Inner ear infection? I had a coworker that got one and would suffer vertigo and or sensation of movement when sitting in a certain position or moving to sit in a particular position.

Intresting theory wolfox, and you might be right.
I had a VW van that had a draging clutch, that's why I sugested it. It's actually a ppretty common problem where I grew up with the air cooled VW's, especially durring the wet winters |

No, it's an automatic, LOL no 5sp here!
It's just a weird feeling, no I don't have an ear infection or anything. It's like the far feels like it moves an inch or 2 forward when starting the car but only after it sits for 8-10hrs. It doesn't seem to effect driving and such, just an odd start up feel. |

Re: Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
Before you start it see if you can push it forwards or backwards.
Or before you let sit push forwards or backwards and make sure it is locked in park. A lot of them will move a in. or so in park. Just be sure it is locked in park gear. MT

Re: Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
I used to have a CJ-5 Laredo that I could not leave alone on a hill. It was a 5-speed, and I would have to leave it parked in gear. When it got cold out, for some reason the parking brake would not hold. It would release all by itself. One time, I parked it out back behind a television studio to stop in to drop off a stack of tapes. When I was going outside, a bunch of people rushed to run past me, and three security officers. When I got outside, wondering what the panic was about, they were running to go and catch my truck before it rolled out of the lot into traffic! It was parked, out of gear (neutral) with the brake applied. It just let go and slooooooooooooowly started to creep out of the lot, downhill toward the entrance and out into traffic. The sharp eyed security staff caught it moving on one of the parking lot cameras.
![]() I could never get the brake to release by itself when I was *watching* it. I stood out in 20 degree weather, freezing my butt off to see if, when and how it would just let go. After 25 minutes I stubbed my cigarette out, turned my back to it to go walk back in the house when I heard it pop. "CHUNK" The truck rolled backwards until it was resting on just engine compression in my driveway. Could never find what was wrong with it - and it would ONLY do it when it was below freezing. Damn thing was haunted, I swear. |

Re: Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
I like Jeeps, and the CJ5 is my second favorite, but never buy an automatic.
A friend of mine bought 1 at an estate sale, and even though it didn't have any damage it turns out that it had rolled killing the former owner It almost rolled on my friend several times. He sayes that it just wouldn't hold back when you needed it to. And shortly after he sold it I understand that it rolled again killing another person. Even though it still didn't have any real damage they finally crushed it. |

Did you by chance take the brown acid?
![]() It could be from the engine shifting the center of gravity and you rolling just a bit. |

Ever get that feeling at a stop light where you think you're moving backwards. Actually it's the car next to you creeping forward, but you instinctively jam the brakes a little harder? (may be an old age thing, like Alzhiemers, and the need for a laxitive) |

Re: Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
When a vehicle sits for a while, the clutches inside the transmission can stick to each other, so when you start the vehicle, it feels like it's trying to move, but just as quick as you start it, the clutches break loose.... It's really noticable with a newly rebuilt transmission.

It could also be a sticking brake caliper, when you go to jump in it and start it up, if the parking prawl hasn't totally engaged, it will move a little until it locks completely.

Re: Car sometimes feels like it moves while sitting still
Don't take the yellow pill anymore either . How does the tranny fluid look ? first thing I thought was the clutch bands sticking . Had this happen on a motorcycle because of dirty oil . Even if it is a different system . Same multidisc clutch system . The internal park lock pin may be damaged . May have one too many parks without brake and that loud clank when when you pull the shifter to a gear.Rob
