Radio code car is too old...

Hello,
trying to get a radio code from the dealership..
they say I need a number that starts like vwz#z#####...
It is on a card given to the "new owner"(not me of course)
I don't have this card...
Could you's tell me....
for those who fell into this category.......
(of needing a radio code)
tell me what you provided the dealer ship with to get it.....
now I am not asking for the numbers.........
just what the items where.... for example
vehicle ident# (aka VIN)
what #'s off the radio.....
or off anything else.....
and what year was the vehicle....
Mine is a 91.....
he claimed that it is too old... and need a vwz#z##### ident number.
Help !!
thanks! M
