Question 2000 Jetta Tdi Flashing Glow Plug And Chech Engine Light

2 days after changing the fuel filter both the glow plug indicator starting flashing and the check engine light came on and won't stop. Dealer has done diagonostic and can't locate. They are now saying it is either the ECM or injector pump(big $$). Car runs really well so I can't se an injector pump. Any thoughts before they screw me over?

Flashing glow plug light indicates water in the fuel, The sensor plugs into the fuel filter. What codes did they get from the CEL?

There is no sensor on the fuel filter.

The glow plugs always go bad on tdi's usually between 50-80k miles.
The harness also goes bad causing glow plug circuit faults.
The glow plug relay also goes bad (least common).

ECM dont go bad on vw or VERY VERY rarely.
Injector pumps dont go bad unless you run gasoline in you diesel.

They determined it wasn't the ECM and say the injector pump has a broken part and they are replacing the injector. I have troble believing this is the problem as the car starts really well and runs well. They are splitting the cost and I only agreed if it solves the problem. I will keep you posted in a couple of days.

flashing glow plug light on Jetta TDI

If your glow plug light is flashing make sure the brakes lights are working!

check this out:

http://www.myvwlemon.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000145.html

I have a 2001 Jetta TDI and recently replaced the glow plug harness and sensor about 3 months ago because the check engine light came on - (the error code was for the glow plug circuit). Today glow plug light itself started flashing so I took it in and just spent $100 at the mechanic for "diagnostics" - they reported that the glow plug didn't come on for them (I'm skeptical) and that there was no code stored in the computer. They also reported my brake lights needed replacing (hmm).

So I picked it up and sure enough the glow plug light started flashing again after about 5 minutes of driving. The mechanic said to bring it back for "more diagnostics - need more time". But I thought I would call around for other opinions or try looking it up online. I found the above link, went to the parts store for new stop lamp bulbs and had everything fixed in like 10 minutes.

I'm gonna try to get a refund...
