Performance Chip....reprogram Ecu...
Hey everyone. I have a group of friends that is going to pool our money together to buy some software to reprogram the ECU's of our cars. So as a group the total cost of the deal is going to be like $20 a person to get a performance chip upgrade for their car. I was wondering if anyone here knew of some possibilities that could go wrong here. I know that I am going to buy some kind of wires to allow the device to specifically hook up to my car (1994 Lincoln Mark VIII) and then we are going to go around with a laptop to each persons car and reprogram the ECU individually. I guess im wonderin if this is going to screw up my car or not...cause the chip is claiming a 45-60 hp increase for my car and that would be sweet as hell if I could get this kind of a deal for $20. Let me know what you think...thx!

Re: Performance Chip....reprogram Ecu...
Gaining even 45 hp is a long shot. Your car would have to be running awful from the start. On my friends SVT Contour, he bought a SCT X-Calibrator which is exactly what your speaking of. The guy added quite a bit of timing and leaned it out to about 13:1 air/fuel and he picked up about 10 whp and 5 wtq. I know your displacement is bigger than a 3.0L, but 45-60 whp is silly.
The software your talking about has no chip at all. If its something like an X-Cal thats already programmed and you just reflash the computer, then thats fine. However, if its something like Greedy E-manage where you actually tune it yourself, I would not recommend that. All of the tuning guru's that I know that use an E-manage, tell newbies its a sure way to mess up your engine if you don't know whats going on.

Re: Performance Chip....reprogram Ecu...
Yea...Im not talking about whp, I guess I was talking about at the crank. In order to get a 10 whp increase there would be a greater increase of hp at the crank (correct me if im wrong). But I have looked at other people with Mark VIII's and have had an entire second drop off of their 0-60 time and more than 0.7 off of their 1/4 mile time. And that was with a 25 hp increase with their chip upgrade and this chip has been guarenteed to give 18% increase and with my car that will be 54 hp increase and thats guarenteed. Maybe this is full of shit but maybe its true...i'll def look out for that E-manage and thx for the input...if anyone else has any more info I would greatly appreciate it....thx again....later!
