Rat-rod

So i have that $500 320i (1982) which runs fine, but looks bad and needs some susp work, paint and some minor rust repair. I was thinking of getting a primer job for $500 or just a flat base coat. Then I would be removing the bumpers and leaving the body the way it is, and having it slammed to the ground.I could get some shorter struts and shocks and put cut springs from other car (or double these ones with additional ones) so its all nice and firm. I would like to go really low. Then i would remove all the interior and put a plastic seat in it and get some nice rims, maybe some upgrates to the engine. (the power train seems to have lotsa life left) It already has a momo wheel and some zetter wing and aftermarket gages.
What do you think of this rat-rod? ( I think it should look pretty mean) After this theres a possible swap to a 350 v8 and 700r4.

Re: Rat-rod

ok a mouse monster, but not now i dont have that much time right now. what I want from this car is to be low budget and something i could abuse. Sure, i could come up with 10000 bucks and turn it into a pocket rocket, but this isnot an issue here.

Re: Rat-rod

Also the point of all this is not to be clean, but proudly dispaly all the years of abuse and neglect, just to be functional thats why i dont want any interior in it too.

If you have the money and the time by all means do what you want. Becides your have one and maybe the only primer black bimmer with a 350. But if your really gona do it you have to get some steel wheels, paint them red, and get some moon hobcaps with big white walls.

Re: Rat-rod

But is it cool or what? Also I do have steel wheels! At first I wanna stick with original engine since putting a 350 in will take some fabrication.

Re: Rat-rod

Right now I am rying to find a collector 2002. The insurance is $200 per year, I would put it on one of my relatives name since they have a second car. looking for something nice that would take little work to get the plates, but they are darn rare. yestarday I saw a 2002 bimmer at a junkyard that had no rust wholes in it whatsoever, it could use some paint, and interior was a bit moldy, but other than that a nice car with original paint. people are strange- they junk rare cars. Its funny that noone takes stuff from it because there are no cars left like that (solid ones). And the mold in the interior was from the fact that they left the doors open when it was raining for a week. Very sad and stupid.

Wait a minute... You're the same goof who's posting to another thread degrading the 318ti. Your comments on our 318tis suggest some kind of automotive superiority on your part... and you're looking at creating a "Rat Rod" from a $500, 1982 Bimmer? C'mon.

Rat Rods are 50s-60s era mods done to vintage American cars, mostly. This craze has inspired others to Rat-up other vehicles as well, again, mostly American cars, some are even late models. You can create one out of your $500 beater but don't expect overwhelming respect from either Euro tuners or Rat Rodders.

Is it cool? Well, what's cool is ultimately up to you. To me- No, it's not cool. It just sounds like a bucket of parts with a Roundel on the hood to impress somone.

Now you're looking for a collector 2002? Look, here's some advice- just have your parents buy you a reliable car (Bimmer or othewise) and quit wasting money you don't have. Maybe someday after saving you'll get that 2002 of your dreams. Or maybe even a 318ti!

Re: Rat-rod

I own several cars and can afford more than you think so you can shut up about, dick!.

Rat rod is not an american term. Any car be hot roded the original 40s way and it even doesnt have to be a v8, get it?

What I ll doing is building a 12 second car, the point is to take a small car and put a big engine in it and go fast til something breaks. Low budget. I can go and get 25000 loan and buy me a street car and than work very hard to pay it off hardly able to support my family

I degrade BMW because I hate em and love em at the same time.

Ok, ok Supervisor... you’re monetarily endowed, omniscient in automotive lore and a visionary trendsetter. Let’s refrain from the profanity and not get booted from the forum. All right?
