Question just got my bumper painted and sensors are coming up

I just got my bumper painted today. Since then, my tail lights flicker off and on (along with the icon in the display panel)......and no matter what drive I am in, the Reverse is lit up as if I was in reverse. The check engine light recently came on too. The guy at the shop said he has no idea. He said he didnt even unhook the battery.

Is this a sensor problem, bad wiring, or what? Thanks

Check the wiring in the trunk by the hinge. This can be frayed and periodically short out or ground.

Re: just got my bumper painted and sensors are coming up

this morning when my lights didnt go on (because it was day time), the icon with the tail lights out and the R icon were not lit up. When I turned my lights on manually it did go on. Thanks for your help Brian. I will check into it when I get home today.

Re: just got my bumper painted and sensors are coming up

driving home I was testing it out and turned my lights on and off. Everytime I did that, the tranny shifted funny each time I turned the light on for about 1 second. I don't get how that can happen from just turning lights on, but the reverse sensor was lit up so I guess that triggered it.

I am waiting for my dad to get home around 3ish to talk to one of his buddies who has a mechanic shop. If it is the wiring, how much would that cost to fix? Thanks

Cool

The TCCU reads the reverse sensor in combination with other things to interpit what you want it to do.
It's concievable that when you trigger the reverse light, the TCCU actuates a solenoid in the valve body that may be actuating a brake, or trying to move a clutch around.
Causing it to act funny until it stops tring it to do that.

Then again I could be tottaly wrong & it's either in your head, or some other issue.

I took it to a transmisson shop and my dads friend said it could be a Neutral Safety Switch
