Turn signal clicker on '02 Jetta

I tried this in the "Odd Electrical Problems" thread, but I figured I'd give it it's own thread and try to get some actual feedback.

I've got a 2002 Jetta TDI with automatic transmission. It's a great car. I've put almost 60,000 miles on it since last summer, and it's given me no real problems.

Except this weird thing with the turn signal clicker. Occasionally it'll just come on. Not the flasher, just that annoying clicking sound. Sometimes it'll go on for MILES in fact, with nothing to prompt it.

I suspect it might be the emergency flasher switch, but I figured I'd find out if anybody here has had (and hopefully solved) similar problems before I waste time switching a part that might not need to be switched.

Thoughts?

Russ

The flasher switch/relay is common to fail. Have you noticed the turn signals ever to be erratic when you use them?

Nope, the signals themselves are fine. It's just the clicker that's given me problems.

If the clicking sound is coming from the hazard flasher switch then I would replace it, it is easy and not too expensive.

Re: Turn signal clicker on '02 Jetta

.....bump.....My girlfriend just took hers in for the same reason. They told her that her car, an '02 jetta, was not covered under the recall. They changed the relay and still did not fix the problem, and told her that it could be a ground wire problem. It's kind of odd that it only clicks abnormally when it's not supposed to be on....it works fine when it's supposed to, and the lights don't flash when it's acting up. Any information you all may have would help out greatly.
BTW, it seemed to start acting up right after I changed the oil....I suppose it could be possible that I may have pulled on a wire or something.
