The other day I was driving my car, a 1993 Chevy Lumina Euro (with no money I might add) and I ran out of gas. I pushed it to a parking spot and forgot to turn off the hazard lights. I came back later on and put in 2 gallons of gas and found the battery was dead. I got a friend to come and jump it but it wouldn't start still. All lights were working so the battery was definately working and it is brand new as well. When I tried to turn the ignition, all I would hear is a clicking noise. I'm not really sure what that means and no one can give me a sure answer. POINTS INTEREST ON CAR: I did have a few problems with the starter about 3 months ago. A friend went under the hood and hit it with a hammer, worked fine ever since. I also have a sub woofer & amp which is hooked directly to the battery, not on that single prong that the battery is hooked up to because of the battery being under the washer fluid. This prong was what I was putting the cable on if that makes any difference (personally I think it is a little weak because the amp for the speakers wouldn't work when hooked on it). I would appreciate some quick help because I am at college right now and have to drive this bad boy 2 1/2 hours back home for Thanksgiving. Is there anything I can do myself or should I hand it over to the pros?
please help me! -- kuzmich -- |

Re: 93 lumina euro won't start during jump
if you turn the key to "on" do you hear the "hummmmm" of the fuel pump kicking in?
also - the ticking can mean two things: 1. you still have a dead battery, try jumping again, and let the battery charge longer 2. you starter finally bit it. i think its the starter, if you had to beat it before to get it to work, thats because its wearing out. you might get lucky again and have a buddy tap on it while trying to start it. starter on luminas are easy to change out. have mom & dad front ya $100 and get a new one (you will get $30 back when you return the old one) advance auto parts is where i got my prices |

Re: Re: 93 lumina euro won't start during jump
Thanks for the help. So if I do get a new starter, how do I change it? What kind of tools do I need and how long will it take to do? If you don't feel like explaining and have a link that would be fine too. Make sure in the explaining that it is detailed enough so I don't forget something little that could make things even worse! I am not car illiterate but ive never changed anything major. thanks again. . .
