1999 intake gasket.
My girlfriends 1999 3100 is losing antifreeze and I noticed it pooling up near the oil pump drive shaft under the throttle body. The oil is perfect, so I'm pretty sure it's only leaking on the outside of the intake manifold. Think I can let this go for 2 weeks until I have time to replace the intake gasket? BTW, I did check the water hoses at the throttle body, they're not leaking.

Re: 1999 intake gasket.
Keep a close eye on the coolant level and the oil. If she's driving it, make sure you stress this point, so she knows that she could blow her engine if she lets the coolant get too low, or if coolant gets in the oil.

Re: 1999 intake gasket.
I had the exact same leak.
I'm not suggesting you put it off, but I had no problem going 12k miles with my dribbling leak. Over time the leak got bigger and I had to top off coolant more frequently. That's my experience. As it's always been my practice, I advise you check all fluids every stop at the filling station. I check brake fluid, ps fluid, washer fluid, and peek at the coolant puke tank while I'm filling up with gas. Engine oil is settled to check by the time the tank is full. -Mark T. |
